Paver Repair in Cape Coral, FL

A low spot where water sits after every storm. A pool deck paver that rocks when you step on it. A driveway apron that dropped after the swale flooded. I'm Aaron Kochheiser, and I've been fixing pavers in Southwest Florida since 2010. Cape Coral is just over the bridge from where we're based in Fort Myers, and a lot of what we see here comes down to the ground the city was built on.

Why pavers settle in Cape Coral

Much of Cape Coral sits on sandy fill, close to a canal. That's hard on pavers over time.

  • Sandy soil and washout. When joint sand washes out, rain can start moving the bedding sand and base underneath. Pavers drop a little at a time until you notice a dip.
  • Heavy summer rain. Afternoon downpours run off roofs, gutters and pool cages and land in the same few spots on a driveway or deck. They sink first.
  • Canal homes and seawall pool decks. On waterfront lots, the pool deck often runs right up to the seawall cap. A dip along the back edge of the deck needs a careful look. Sometimes it's ordinary settling. Sometimes it points to soil escaping through the seawall, and that has to be fixed by a seawall or marine contractor before any paver work will last. I'll tell you straight if I think that's what is going on.
  • Salt air and pool cages. Salt and constant moisture break down joint sand, so pavers shift more easily.
  • Storm repairs. After Hurricane Ian, plenty of Cape Coral homes ended up with patched sections, reset pavers and replacement pieces that never quite sat level with the original surface.

What we repair

  • Sunken and uneven pavers. We lift the affected pavers, correct and compact the base, re-screed the bedding sand and reset them level with the surrounding surface.
  • Tree-root lifts. Palms and landscape trees beside walkways and driveways can push pavers up. We reset the pavers and talk with you about the root before anything gets cut.
  • Broken and cracked pavers. We replace damaged pieces and reuse sound pavers wherever we can. Spare pavers from the original job give us the best chance at a close match.
  • Re-sanding. We sweep in fresh polymeric sand so the joints lock back up and hold up better against weeds, ants and washout.
  • Edge restraints. When a border spreads, the field pavers start creeping out after it. We reset loose borders and restore the edge restraint so the repair stays put.

How a Cape Coral repair works

  1. Look at the whole area. Send photos and tell us where water collects. On site, we check the base, the edges, the drainage and, for waterfront homes, the seawall side of the deck.

  2. Agree on the repair boundary. A dip often reaches farther than the few pavers you can see. We show you where the repair has to start and stop so it ties into the good paving.

  3. Lift, rebuild and reset. We remove the pavers, fix what's underneath, relay them in the original pattern and replace any broken pieces.

  4. Lock it in. We re-sand the joints and set the edges.

  5. Optional cleaning and sealing. Once the surface is sound, we can clean and seal it so the repaired section blends in. See our Cape Coral paver sealing page for how that works. Sealer won't fix a low spot, so the repair always comes first.

Cape Coral paver repair FAQs

There's a dip in my pool deck right next to the seawall. Can you fix it?

Usually, yes, but first we need to know why it's sinking. If the seawall is losing fill, the dip will come back until the wall is repaired. We'll take a look and tell you whether it's a paver repair or a seawall issue first.

Can you match pavers that were replaced after the hurricane?

We'll try to reuse the original pavers and find the closest replacement for anything broken. An exact match depends on the paver style, color and how much the old pavers have weathered, so we'll go over the options with you on site.

Do you take small repairs?

Yes. A handful of sunken pavers at the driveway apron or a lifted walkway section is a normal job for us.

Should I seal after a repair?

Cleaning and sealing after a repair helps the old and new sections blend and protects the joints. It's optional, and we'll talk about timing once the repair is done.
