Paver Restoration in Fort Myers, FL

When a driveway or pool deck has faded, sunk in spots, grown black mold or is covered in hazy, peeling sealer, another coat of sealer usually won't fix it. Paver restoration brings the whole surface back: we correct what's wrong underneath and on top, then protect it again. Paver Savers & Concrete has cared for pavers, travertine and concrete in Fort Myers and across Southwest Florida since 2010.

Paver restoration vs. paver sealing

Sealing works well on pavers that are still level, solid and mostly clean. It protects a surface that is in good shape. Restoration is for pavers that have problems a sealer can't hide, such as failed coatings, deep stains, washed-out joints or pavers that have moved. Sealing is the last step of a restoration, but a restoration covers a lot more than sealing.

Signs your pavers need restoration

  • Fading. The color looks washed out, even when the pavers are wet.
  • White haze or cloudy sealer. Trapped moisture or a coating that's breaking down can leave a milky film.
  • Peeling or flaking sealer. Old sealer that lifts in patches looks worse than no sealer at all.
  • Weeds and ant hills in the joints. These are signs the joint sand has washed out.
  • Sinking, heaving or rocking pavers. Low spots, trip edges and loose borders show the base or edge restraint needs attention.
  • Black mold, algae or mildew. This is common in shaded areas, on north-facing walkways and anywhere irrigation hits every day.
  • Rust, oil and efflorescence. Irrigation rust, vehicle drips and white mineral deposits that pressure washing alone doesn't remove.

If you're seeing two or three of these, a restoration is usually a better plan than a quick clean.

Our paver restoration process

Every surface is different, so we start with an assessment and only recommend the steps your pavers actually need.

  1. Assessment. We look at the paver or stone type, any existing coating, the joints, the edges and how water drains off the area.

  2. Stripping failed sealer. If the old sealer is hazy, white or peeling, we strip it so the new finish bonds to clean pavers rather than to a failing coating.

  3. Deep cleaning. We clean away dirt, mold, mildew and algae, and treat rust, oil and efflorescence with methods suited to each stain.

  4. Repairs. We lift and re-level sunken or heaved sections, correct the base underneath and replace cracked or broken pavers where needed.

  5. Re-sanding the joints. We fill the joints with polymeric sand, which firms up to help lock the pavers together and resist weeds, ants and washout.

  6. Optional color enhancement. If you'd like richer color, we can talk through enhancing or recoloring options before any product goes down.

  7. Resealing. We finish with a sealer suited to the material and talk through finish options with you first.

What Fort Myers weather does to pavers

Southwest Florida is hard on outdoor surfaces. Strong sun nearly all year fades color and breaks down sealer. Summer storms wash sand out of the joints, which leads to weeds, ants and pavers that start to shift. Homes along the river, canals and near the Gulf also get salt air, which dulls finishes and encourages growth on the surface. Pool decks deal with all of that, plus splash-out, pool chemicals and bare feet, so they tend to need attention sooner than driveways.

Brick pavers, concrete pavers and travertine

We restore the main surfaces you'll find around Fort Myers homes. Concrete pavers make up most driveways and walkways, and they usually respond well to stripping, cleaning, re-sanding and resealing. Brick paver restoration takes a gentler approach, because clay brick handles cleaning and sealers differently than concrete. Travertine is common on pool decks and lanais. It's porous natural stone, so it needs its own cleaning method and a sealer made for stone. See our travertine and stone maintenance page for more.

Restoration or replacement?

If the pavers themselves are mostly sound, restoring them usually makes more sense than tearing them out. Most of the material stays in place, broken pieces get swapped out, and the surface is protected again. Replacement makes more sense when the pavers are widely broken or badly worn, or when you want a different layout altogether. We'll tell you honestly which way we'd go after we've seen the area.

How long paver restoration takes

The timeline depends on the size of the area, how much repair it needs, whether old sealer has to come off, and the weather. A smaller walkway or patio usually goes faster than a full driveway or pool deck with stripping and re-leveling. The pavers need to be dry before joint sand and sealer go down, so afternoon rain can push a step to another day. We'll give you a realistic schedule, along with when you can walk on and drive on the surface again, before we start.

Fort Myers paver restoration FAQs

What's the difference between paver restoration and paver sealing?

Sealing protects pavers that are already in good shape. Restoration fixes the problems first, such as failed sealer, deep stains, washed-out joints and sunken pavers, and then reseals the surface.

Can you remove white, hazy or peeling sealer?

Yes. We strip failed sealer before resealing, so the new coat bonds to the pavers and doesn't build up on top of the old problem.

Can sunken or broken pavers be fixed without replacing the whole area?

Usually, yes. We lift the affected section, correct the base, re-level the pavers and replace any cracked or broken pieces.

Do you restore travertine pool decks?

Yes. We clean travertine with methods suited to natural stone, address loose or uneven pieces, and seal it with a product made for stone.

How long does paver restoration take?

It depends on the size, the amount of repair and the weather. Smaller areas usually go faster than full driveways or pool decks. We'll give you a schedule before we start.

Is restoration work covered by a warranty?

Yes. All work is backed by a full one-year warranty.
