Paver Sealer Stripping in Cape Coral, FL
If your driveway or pool deck has gone milky white, looks cloudy in patches or has sealer flaking off like old paint, putting another coat on top usually locks the problem in. In Cape Coral, we see it a lot on pool decks under screen cages and on canal-front homes that never fully dry out. I'm Aaron Kochheiser. I've been cleaning, stripping and sealing pavers in Southwest Florida since 2010, and we come over the bridge from our base in Fort Myers.

Why sealer fails on Cape Coral pavers
- Moisture trapped under the sealer. Cape Coral is humid, and summer rain comes almost every afternoon. If sealer goes down before the pavers have dried out, or if water keeps working up from below, the coating can turn white or cloudy. That's one of the most common calls we get.
- Pool decks under screen cages. Lanai and pool deck pavers stay shaded and damp longer than the driveway. Sealer in those spots tends to cloud, peel or get slick first.
- Salt air on canal homes. Gulf-access lots pick up salt and moisture that wear down a coating and leave it dull and patchy.
- Layer after layer. Some surfaces have been sealed again and again, sometimes with different products. The buildup goes uneven, dark in some areas and hazy in others.
- Patchwork after storm repairs. After Hurricane Ian, many homes had sections reset or replaced and then sealed separately. The old and new areas often don't match, and the surface looks blotchy.
Not every white mark is failing sealer. Mineral deposits and efflorescence can look similar. Our blog post on why pavers turn white after sealing explains the difference, and we'll check before recommending stripping.
Our stripping and resealing process
Assess the coating. We visually inspect the finish to confirm where it's failing, then build the stripping process from what we see. If you have an old invoice or product name, send it, but it's not required.
Protect the surroundings. On canal and pool homes, we talk through the pool, the cage, plants and where rinse water will go before we start.
Strip the old sealer. We use a removal method suited to the coating and the paver, and stubborn or built-up areas get extra attention.
Rinse and clean. We rinse the surface thoroughly and clean off the loosened residue, dirt and organic growth.
Let it dry. This step matters a lot in Cape Coral. We don't reseal over damp pavers, because that's how many of these problems start.
Re-sand and reseal. We fill the joints with polymeric sand and apply fresh sealer in the finish you choose. Our Cape Coral paver sealing page covers that part in detail. If any pavers are sunken or broken, we can fix them first through our Cape Coral paver repair service.
Stripping removes a failing coating, but it doesn't undo every stain, chip or bit of fading in the pavers underneath. We'll be upfront about what to expect before we start.

Cape Coral paver stripping FAQs
Why did my pavers turn white after they were sealed?
Most often, moisture got trapped under the sealer, either because it went on before the pavers were dry or because water is working up from below. Mineral deposits can look similar, so we check before deciding the sealer has to come off.
Can't you just put another coat over it?
Not if the existing coating is failing. New sealer on top of a cloudy or peeling layer usually keeps the problem and can make it worse. Stripping gives the new finish a clean start.
My pavers are next to the pool and the canal. Is stripping safe?
We plan the job around the pool, the cage, your landscaping and the canal, including where rinse water goes. Let us know about anything sensitive when you request a quote.
How soon can you reseal after stripping?
Only once the pavers are properly dry. In Cape Coral's summer weather, that can take a little longer, and we'd rather wait than seal moisture in.
